What lies beneath: How nematodes are affected by wilding conifers

One of the aims of the Winning Against Wildings research programme is to better understand how ecosystems are affected by wilding trees. We want to know how different impacts change with the density of infestations, and we also want to know if once we remove wildings, how will ecosystems respond.

Phase II - Budget Announcement

The National Wilding Conifer Control Programme received an additional $21 million Crown funding, over the next two years 2019-21, to protect biodiversity, farmland, and iconic landscapes from the impact of wilding conifers.

This means that Phase II will begin, and the funding will likely be directed at maintaining previously cleared areas and continuing to roll-back infestations in those areas of the country (Management Units) where the Programme is already active. The exact areas and extent of operations will be decided by the Programme’s Governance Group and Operational Advisory Groups. These decisions are likely by August 2019.
