The National Wilding Conifer Control Programme received an additional $21 million Crown funding, over the next two years 2019-21, to protect biodiversity, farmland, and iconic landscapes from the impact of wilding conifers.
This means that Phase II will begin, and the funding will likely be directed at maintaining previously cleared areas and continuing to roll-back infestations in those areas of the country (Management Units) where the Programme is already active. The exact areas and extent of operations will be decided by the Programme’s Governance Group and Operational Advisory Groups. These decisions are likely by August 2019.
